Purple pepper flakes refer only to purple chili peppers. Also, crimson pepper flakes often involve a mix of chilis and may be milder than some other types of chili flakes. I shop my dehydrated peppers in obvious jars with gaskets on a rack in my kitchen. They've been good since past tumble. H
